Engineering Verdict Architecture Recommendation

Use the OpenAI API directly for open-ended assistants and custom agents. Use RSFlowHub when you want ready-made task endpoints with structured JSON, provider fallback and one bill, without writing prompts.

Pattern A (Recommended)

RSFlowHub Task Endpoints

Pre-built endpoints such as /sentiment-analysis or /ticket-analyze. Each one wraps a tuned prompt and model, validates the result and returns the same JSON fields every time.

Key Technical Advantages:

  • No prompt engineering
  • Same response schema on every call
  • Automatic fallback to another provider
  • Free monthly quota on utility APIs
Pattern B (Alternative / Legacy)

OpenAI API (Direct)

General-purpose GPT models through the official API. You design the prompt, the JSON schema and the parsing for every feature you build.

Characteristics & Trade-Offs:

  • Full control over prompts and parameters
  • Newest OpenAI models and features first
  • Structured Outputs for custom JSON schemas
  • Large ecosystem and SDKs

The real difference: task APIs vs a model API

The OpenAI API gives you a powerful general model. To turn it into a sentiment score or a ticket priority, you write a prompt, define the output format, handle edge cases where the model answers in prose, and re-test when you switch models.

RSFlowHub does that work once per task. You call POST /api/v1/ai/sentiment-analysis with your text and get sentiment, confidence and optional per-aspect scores back. The prompt, model choice and validation live on our side, so a model upgrade does not change your integration.

Reliability: one provider vs automatic fallback

When you integrate one provider directly, an outage or rate limit at that provider becomes an outage in your feature unless you build retries and a second integration yourself.

RSFlowHub routes requests across OpenAI, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and xAI Grok. A circuit breaker tracks provider health, and when a call fails or is rate-limited it is retried on a configured backup model. You are not charged for calls that fail.

Cost and billing

OpenAI bills per token, and costs depend on the model and prompt length you choose. RSFlowHub bills in credits per call: simple endpoints start at 1 credit, and generation endpoints add credits for longer inputs and outputs. Utility endpoints (intent, sentiment, PII redaction, spam detection) include a free monthly request quota on every plan.

If you already run high-volume, highly custom prompts, going direct is usually cheaper. If you need a handful of standard text features, RSFlowHub saves the engineering time of building and maintaining them.

When to choose which

  • Choose OpenAI directly for chat assistants, agents with tool use, creative generation with custom instructions, or when you need a specific new model feature on day one.
  • Choose RSFlowHub for well-defined text tasks inside your product: classify, score, moderate, redact, translate, summarize, triage or draft replies, with a stable JSON contract.
  • Use both: many teams keep their custom assistant on a direct model API and use RSFlowHub for the repetitive classification and moderation work around it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does RSFlowHub use OpenAI models?

Yes, among others. Requests run on models from OpenAI, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and xAI Grok, chosen and tuned per endpoint, with automatic fallback between providers.

Do I need an OpenAI API key to use RSFlowHub?

No. One RSFlowHub API key covers every endpoint. Provider accounts and model costs are handled by RSFlowHub and billed to you as credits.

Can I get custom JSON fields like with OpenAI Structured Outputs?

Yes, with the JSON Extractor endpoint you pass your own schema and receive data that matches it. Task endpoints such as sentiment analysis return a fixed, documented schema.
